One less thing to worry about, automatic renewals are here!
Not yet finished with your library book? No Problem!
Under a new policy, the University Library will automatically renew your materials at the end of the loan period.
What is an automatic renewal?
The default loan period for borrowed books is 28 days. From 26 October, we will automatically renew the due date of your borrowed books after 28 days.
We will automatically renew the loan period up to 6 times unless:
- The book has been reserved by another person.
- The item has reached its maximum number of renewals (6 times).
- Your account is expired or you have outstanding costs.
Request to return
If the book cannot be renewed, you will get an email with a request to return your library book within one week. We will send notifications to your official UM email account. Notifications for external users are sent to the email address on record.
Goodbye to the 5 euro overdue fines!
Because of the auto-renewal, you will not have the 5 or 10 euro overdue fines on your library account anymore.
Important
Once the final due date has passed, you will receive reminders to return your library books. If you fail to return your books, your library account will be blocked. You will be charged replacement costs, with a minimum of €75, for overdue non-returned items.
