The Dataset Register from Dutch heritage institutions is live
From now on you will find information about datasets from heritage institutions in one place: the Dataset Register. The Network of War Resources and the Van Gogh Worldwide recently made their data available for this purpose.
The Dataset Register itself does not contain any datasets. They publish heritage institutions themselves via their website or on an open data platform that the institution uses. What you will find in the Dataset Register are the URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers, in other words the never-changing web addresses) of the dataset descriptions. And these descriptions in turn contain references to the datasets themselves. That is why the register can be compared to a phone book, according to Bob Coret. In this article (in Dutch) Bob Coret talks about the importance of this ‘phone book’.
For people interested in this type of data, we highly recommend also have a look at other pages within the website of the Netwerk Digitaal Erfgoed, such as the page about the LDWizard tool (also in Dutch) to convert CSV-files to linked data.
