    Preserving Maastricht University’s visual history

    Since 2025, Maastricht University Library has been working on the Maastricht University (UM) Heritage Photo Collection project, making a curated selection of historical photographs from the UM archive more accessible. As part of this project, sessions are being organised with current and former UM employees who were involved with the university at some point between 1975 and 2003 to analyse the photographs.

    Investing in open research information: OpenAlex partnership and end of Scopus license

    Maastricht University Library is taking a significant step towards open research information by investing in a partner subscription with OpenAlex. At the same time, the library has decided to cancel its Scopus license with effect from 1 January 2027.

    National Action Days for Resilient Heritage

    From 11–13 May, institutions across the Netherlands are participating in the National Action Days for Resilient Heritage, an initiative organised by the Dutch UNESCO Commission, Blue Shield Netherlands, and Cultural Emergency Response. The initiative encourages organisations to strengthen the resilience of cultural heritage and to prepare for a wide range of crises, including emergencies, climate-related risks, cyber threats, and armed conflict.

    As of January 2026, Maastricht University has a new Read & Publish agreement with de Gruyter Brill, negotiated nationally via UKB and SURF.

    Maastricht psychology students bring rare books to Wikipedia

    Once again this year, psychology students at Maastricht University are bringing rare and fascinating books out of the stacks and onto Wikipedia.

    Opening up university treasures: The ‘Open Topstukken’ Project

    Maastricht University (UM) and Radboud University (RU) joined forces to bring their most remarkable heritage objects into the digital spotlight. Through the Open Topstukken Project, both universities digitised and shared 15 key objects each from their collections around 4 shared themes, making them accessible, findable and reusable to researchers, students, and the public worldwide.

    Looking back: Butterflies through the eyes of science and art

    During the Weekend van de Wetenschap (Weekend of Science), visitors were invited into the wonderful world of butterflies at Tapijn. The University Library participated with the activity “Butterflies through the eyes of science and art”, where science, art, and history beautifully came together to inspire both young and old.
