Planning

Here is a recap of what will be done during the renovation. We will start with installing a new roof. The activities for the new roof will start on 17 July. Subsequently, the library will undergo a metamorphosis. Not only will the library receive a new, more modern look, but the set-up of the collections is also being reviewed and updated. Read more about reviewing the collections in the previous newsletter. As for the design, the goal is to create a calm and natural atmosphere. A place to concentrate, collaborate and create. Stay tuned, as we will present the design for the renewed library soon!

The opening hours will be as follows: Randwyck Library will be closed from 15 July. On 28 August, the third floor will re-open. You are welcome to use the study places here but keep in mind that there might be noise nuisance due to the renovation work. In the meantime, the study places in Endepolsdomein (EPD) 150 will be open.

From 15 July – 28 August you are welcome in the USC Learning Space.

The run time of this project is approximately 6 months, with the predicted deadline for the re-opening of the renewed library set in January 2024.

Preparing for the renovation

In the meantime, our colleagues are working hard on preparing for the renovation. The pedometer from our colleagues Alaettin and Hans (both from the team building management), for example, are working overtime, as two weeks ago, Aleattin and Hans started to put stickers on all the objects in the library. Some of the stuff will be moved to EPD, others will be stored for replacement once the renovations are completed, and others will be removed. An important subject during this project is sustainability. Hence, we consider carefully what can be re-used. A time-consuming task that requires some logistical and creative skills.

Moving stuff around

This project reaches further than just the library in Randwyck. The Learning Space in Endepolsdomein replaces Randwyck Library during the renovation period, offering 500 study places, the library and ICTS services, PeerPoint and (a part of the) collection of the study landscape. To prepare EPD 150 properly, the furnishing from the library will be moved to EPD. But you will also recognise some furnishing from the Sports Centre (USC) Learning Space in EPD. Why is that? The group rooms in USC, better known as the ’nine rooms’, are currently under construction. The rooms receive a new set-up and look, in line with the sports character of USC. New furnishing here will be delivered in the week of 10 July. Hence, the former furnishing in USC comes in handy while preparing the study places in EPD. And this way, the movers are already getting to know the renewed location. The study places in USC will be ready on 17 July. Just in time for the renovation to start in the library!
