Looking back at 2021: Implementing and following up on Generic Research Data Management Trainings
In winter 2019, the Introduction to Research Data Management (RDM) course was part of the University Library’s RDM and FAIR data workshops (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Since then, a cyberattack and global pandemic have taken place, which has led us to reinvent the existing RDM module and create new ones.
We have worked together with colleagues from the RDM team, researchers, and data managers from the Open Science Community to develop new RDM workshops for our researchers. We have introduced the FAIR essentials module and FAIR for qualitative data. The training takes its basis from the PBL approach common at the university. We have looked for a way to translate the trainings into the online environment. In breakout rooms, participants face real scenarios and try to implement the FAIR principles to the best of their abilities, with the tools learned in the first and more theoretical part of the workshop.
The response from the participants coming from all faculties at the university has been positive. The courses have also helped create a liaison between the researchers and the data stewards at their faculties. Since the courses often open the curiosity of the researchers to comply with Open Science and the FAIR principles.
In the upcoming year, we plan to professionalise these modules even more. There are plans to make this part of a broader concept of the Digital Literacy training curriculum. We are excited to bring these courses back to you next semester. If you or a colleague is interested, please do not hesitate to visit the Workshops & Courses Page of the Library at Workshops and Courses – Maastricht University Library.
Looking forward to a new season of RDM trainings
