Since 1984, the library facilities for the SBE have developed from a basic collection of printed materials into a wealth of academic information that is made available 24/7 via the Online Library. Some books of our library collection are displayed to show three decades of SBE library facilities.
Due to the 500th birth year of Andreas Vesalius, an exhibition is held in the Inner City Library of the Maastricht University from 1 December until 13 February. You can visit and see our special collection of Vesalius and other artists and anatomist for free during the Inner City Library opening hours.
Antwerp book printer Jacob van Liesvelt got his head cut off in 1545. The bible that led to his beheading is now on exhibit in the Dominican church and illustrates the festive presentation of the Bible in Plain Language last Sunday. In three showcases Maastricht University Library shows nine impressive bibles from its Special Collections.
UM bachelor’s student Helen Piel won the first Jesuit Collection Thesis Competition. She was awarded the prize on 24 June at the Maastricht University Library for her excellent essay on a work of art from the Jesuit Collection – the University Library’s most influential special collection.
