- Check out the Online Manuals we selected for you or enrol in a classroom training
- Have your questions answered by the library, or redirected to an expert at the faculty or data supplier
- Complex questions may result in one-to-one personal instruction sessions of 60 minutes max

3. FAQs – Check before you contact the support team #
Unfortunately, we cannot offer specific data analysis support. For questions about data analysis it’s advised to contact a statistics professor or tutor from your own faculty. In addition, there’s always the possibility to use a free online course or instruction video’s on YouTube.
There is nothing more efficient than being able to use the output of one database as the direct input for the second database.
The moment you retrieve company data from your first database, please make sure you collect as many identifiers (tickers, CUSIP, SEDOL etc.) for these companies as possible. This will save you a tremendous amount of work the moment you need additional data form a second database.
Please have a look at the Online Manuals section first!
For a more detailed overview of recommended financial and economic databases, their contents and the use of identifiers, follow this link .
Next to that, the startpage of WRDS right away offers an overview of what data they offer in what database.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to request a trial subscription for any database. Not only did we already use all of our trials, but it’s also not possible due to technical impracticalities.
It’s always advised to check the availability of data before you start your research and writing process. If the data is not available in our databases, your options are quite limited.
If the data you need is not available, the first thing you can do is consult with your supervisor. Personal or department subscriptions to databases are not uncommon. Another option would be to use your own network or free search engine for finding the correct data.
Google Dataset Search is a new project from Google and allows users to find datasets stored on the internet through simple keyword searches. Google states that the tool finds information about datasets hosted in thousands of repositories on the internet, making these data sets universally accessible and usable. Google Dataset Search offers tips and information on the webpage Dataset Search.
It is advised to be careful and critical when using Google Dataset Search and discuss this option first with your supervisor. Please keep in mind that the University Library might not offer access to the databases shown in the search results.
Google Dataset Search works like any other Google tool and shows sponsored websites first. Accessibility, usability and reproduction of the data, later on, might not be guaranteed even though Google says otherwise: more data will be available if more datasets are described by similar standards.
